Skate Downtown Cincinnati and Cincinnati Parks Foundation Present A Day of “Wheely” Exciting Events

Sun Up to Sun Down Skate Is A Full Day of Roller Skating Fun on August 5

CINCINNATI, OHIO – Get ready to roll into summer fun! Skate Downtown Cincinnati, in partnership with Cincinnati Parks Foundation, is thrilled to announce an exhilarating full day of roller skating events, Sun Up to Sun Down Skate, scheduled for August 5, 2023. This first-of-its-kind celebration promises to bring fitness, laughter, and new skills to roller skating enthusiasts of all ages and abilities through a DJ’ed brunch skate, four roller skating workshops, and an outdoor sunset skate party in Cincinnati’s riverfront park.

The event begins with WakeNSkate at 10 am until 1 pm at the Over the Rhine Cincinnati Recreation Center at 1715 Republic Street and features DJ Jelly along with free coffee and brunch bites.

In between morning and evening skating sessions, Morgan Rigaud, Skate Downtown Cincinnati organizer, is encouraging attendees to stay downtown and explore the city. “Our skating sessions aren’t the only free things to do in Cincinnati. Skaters can wander through Findlay Market, take in ArtWorks Murals, explore Cincinnati Art Museum, Contemporary Arts Center, National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and Black Music Walk of Fame, and stroll through Smale Riverfront Park,” she said. Rigaud operates her skating programs under the creed that skating spaces are welcoming, fun, and safe and wants to connect skaters to other spaces within the city with the same tenants.

From 5-7 pm, attendees can learn from some of Cincinnati’s most talented skaters with a series of free workshops at the Sawyer Point Riverfront Rink at 925 Riverfront Drive. Workshops include jamskating with Florida-based Josh Love, a professional skater sponsored by Anabolix; pivots with Disney choreographer and professional skaterDylan Morton; dips with Reckless Sk8er Shawn Bell Jr., and jumps with Mikey Brown, one of the leaders of the HoodSk8er team.

As the sun sets, the roller skating continues with an outdoor skate party led by DJ Monet from 7-10pm. The organizations have a limited number of skates that can be borrowed for free with ID during skating hours.
