Community Initiatives

Many projects and programs within Cincinnati Parks are community-driven.

To assist groups who do not have a 501(c)3 status, we lend administrative support to community projects which have been approved by the Cincinnati Park Board. These community groups make use of our fundraising platforms and we act as fiscal and administrative stewards. We do not actively fundraise, manage, or organize these projects, but set up a mechanism to capture donations.

Burnet Woods Dog Park

Cincinnati Parks Board, University of Cincinnati students, and Clifton Pop-Up-Pup-Party are partnering with Cincinnati Parks Foundation to build a dog park in Burnet Woods.

Why do we love Cincinnati Parks?

So many reasons…

We’re grateful to the Cincy Parks team, partners and volunteers that keeps them thriving and with new trees while keeping invasive species at bay.

We’re proud of our partnerships with Cincinnati Children’s be.well and Luke5Adventures that make our parks and trails accessible to everyone.

We’re excited for our free winter hiking challenge, Friluftsliv, that will keep people exploring our beautiful parks all season long.

Were invested in keeping our parks clean and litter free with our volunteer litter pick-up program, obLITTERators.

We love all 5,000 of Cincinnati Parks. If you do too, consider supporting us in the Cincinnati Gives fundraising challenge with a big High $5. Your donation will help us all do more of what we love! #linkinbio
How about a High $5 for some amazing kids??? Your donations to Cincinnati Parks Foundation through the 2023 Cincinnati Gives Fundraising Challenge will help us do more in our parks for some really special kids and their families.

Each week, in parks all around Cincinnati, you can find children from Cincinnati Childrens Occupational and Physical Therapy departments working on clincial goals in a natural setting--Cincy Parks! What started out as one kid who wanted to run the mile with his school classmates has grown into multiple programs with hundreds of kids that take place year round in Cincinnati Parks.

Thanks to gifts from donors like you, were able to host be.well fitness and wellness classes, from adaptive hiking with Luke5Adventures, a running and walking club that culminates in a 5K, green gym, martial arts, yoga, pickleball and more. We love watching these kids become stronger and more connected, while focusing on their own wellness.

Kids and their families who complete a be.well program are more likely to come back and explore our parks on their own--with a newfound love of nature and of Cincinnati Parks. Were so happy to have everyone love our parks as much as we do. Because together, we can all do more in parks.

Just a $5 donation through the Cincinnati Gives Challenge will help us to continue to build a community of support around these incredible kids.

To donate #linkinbio.

The neighborhood of Bond Hill, a community vulnerable to climate change because of low tree canopy coverage, has 140 new trees today thanks to our ongoing partnership with MadTree Brewing Company and Cincinnati Parks.

MadTree Brewing Company closed their doors for the day and their employees joined us in Bond Hill, along with employees from MANE and Groundwork ORV, to plant trees, revitalize community gardens and refresh the Bond Hill Recreation Center.

This effort is part of the Climate Safe Neighborhood plan, which engages residents and community leaders to ensure a community voice in the project. Yesterday’s work brought together 7 different organizations to work in one community.

This video shows you a glimpse. But it doesn’t show residents coming out of their homes to express their thanks, volunteers in awe of planting their first-ever tree, or event organizers, teary-eyed at the impact and emotion of it all.

Consider joining Cincinnati Parks and Cincinnati Parks Foundation for an upcoming volunteer day—and you’ll see what we mean.

As our be.well move athletes crossed the finish line at Smale Riverfront Park, more be.well participants got an introduction to martial arts at Theodore M. Berry International Friendship Park. These athletes will meet for the next six weeks, building focus, strength and determination while trying something new.

Cincinnati Parks Foundation is proud to host be.well yoga, hiking, pickleball, green gym (strength training), move, and martial arts in Cincinnati Parks. This program not only gets kids out of the clinical setting for occupational and physical therapy services, but introduces them to new activities and new parks. Kids who participate in a be.well program are highly likely to visit more Cincinnati Parks and to continue trying new activities on their own. be.well is brought to Cincinnati Parks through a partnership with Cincinnati Parks Foundation and Cincinnati Childrens Hospital and is an innovative way to study wellness in special populations.

This weekend, our obLITTERators met at Ezzard Charles Park to remove litter. Each month, we travel to a different park, with our partners from Clean Up Collective, groups like Cincy Girls Who, CPF Board Members, CPACs, pretty princesses, and volunteers like you to clean up our parks.

So far, we’ve removed 32 tons of litter this year and we’re working towards a record-setting year for our obLITTERators super stars. We provide all the tools you need (but bring your own tutu and tiara) and after each session, the team at Clean Up Collective recycles, repurposes and disposes of the trash we pick up.

This is a great way to get your kids involved in community service, host a team building activity, or just to have fun with friends in the park. Not all heroes wear capes—some wear obLITTERators t-shirts and we’ll give you one of those to proudly wear.

Join us next month, Sunday, Nov 12 from 12-2 p.m. at Glenway Park in Price Hill. Together, we can remove even MORE litter from Cincinnati Parks.
It’s a great day to have a great day! Come join us at Ezzard Charles Park until 4 p.m. for the annual EzzFest celebration—games, fun, food, music and more.

On Sunday, we’ll be back at this park for our monthly obLITTERators litter pick up! All are welcome and we’ll bring all the tools you need to help keep our parks clean and beautiful.

Thanks to everyone who came out to TrailFest this weekend in Mt. Airy Forest. We had a ball!
Parks are filled with trees and flowers, playgrounds and hiking trails, benches and grassy fields. But they are also filled with stories--short stories and some with chapters that span generations.

The story of the Capitoline Wolf in Eden Park is a tome that sits on our library shelves--filled with poignancy and intrigue.

It tells the story of history, community, heritage, and legacy. When it was discovered missing, the Cincinnati Parks Foundation connected with the Sons & Daughters of Italy Cincinnatus Lodge #1191 to tell this important chapter of the story that will bring the wolf home to Eden Park. Some detective work located the original molds of the statue at a foundry in Florence, Italy, and together, we quickly raised the funds to create a new statue.

We have loved getting to know the members of the Sons and Daughters of Italy and hearing stories of their heritage and how they honor their Italian ancestry and celebrate it here in Cincinnati. We look forward to writing this next chapter about our Capitoline Wolf as we welcome her back to Eden Park, and she tells the story to all who visit her about the real meaning of community and the legacy it builds in our parks.

Please join us for unveiling the new Capitoline Wolf statue in Eden Park on Friday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m., and lets celebrate the trees, flowers, trails, benches, statues, and stories together.

@cincyparks
Last October, we celebrated the dedication of the bronze-cast statue of boxing legend Ezzard Charles, alongside the community in Cincinnati’s West End neighborhood. The work to revitalize this park included the installation of an accessible plaza, benches, and trees to transform a park into a community gathering space. That’s really something to celebrate.

Join the Seven Hills Neighborhood Houses this Saturday for the 2023 Annual EzzFest from 12-5 PM. Enjoy live music, kids’ activities, free food from 12-2, and more. We hope you’ll join us.

On Sunday, we are returning to Ezzard Charles Park from 12-2 PM for our 8th obLITTERators litter clean-up of the season. We’ll meet along the circle at Laurel Park Drive. We’ll have everything you need to volunteer! We’ve removed 265 bags of litter from Cincinnati Parks this season. Help us reach out goal of 400 bags!

It’s true. Without sunlight, neither tree nor anything green grows.

Thank you to our sponsors, attendees, honorary chairs, committee chairs, volunteers, partners, staff, and Cincinnati Parks team members who attended the 17th annual Hats Off Luncheon. We celebrated at Smale Riverfront Park, but the impact of this fundraiser will be felt by countless people throughout our 5000 acres of park land.

Thank you. You are our sunlight. Together, we can make Cincinnati Parks shine brighter by doing more.
While you were all thinking about the Roman Empire, we were thinking about the Hats Off Luncheon.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing more glimpses of this event, the people who make it happen, the possibilities that it creates, and the fabulous hats (and the faces that accompany them) that have supported Cincinnati Parks over the past 17 years.

After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day. And neither were our parks. We’ll keep working alongside the Cincinnati Parks team —and all of you—to keep them green, clean, and beautiful, thanks to the momentum created by this fundraiser.

We’re filled with gratitude to all who made this day possible. We’re having a little veni, vidi, vici moment as we reflect on the little moments of this day. All of our planning and work were worth it! We started the day before sunrise and stayed until dark, but the sun will never set on the joyful memories that remain.

At last nights fundraiser at the park, we got to spend time with Lois Conyers, founding Board member of Cincinnati Parks Foundation and founding member of the Womens Committee of Cincinnati Parks, who represented Cincinnatis sister city Harare, Zimbabwe.

Read more about the treasures in Friendship Park, created to honor Cincinnatis friendships with its sister cities, which also includes Liuzhou, China; Munich, Germany; Gifu, Japan; New Taipei City, Taiwan; Nancy, France; Mysore, India; Amman, Jordan; and Kharkaiv, Ukraine, in a recent article in the Enquirer #linkinbio.
Then, head to Friendship Park to explore the mosaics, sculptures, plantings, and buildings that represent our citys sister cities during International Friendship Day today from 11am-2pm.

When your annual fundraiser is called the Hats Off Luncheon, you know that it’s all about the hat. Do you have yours picked out yet? We had fun going through photos from past events of some of our favorite people and hats. Here’s some hat inspo as you’re shopping this weekend.
Were a week away from the 17th annual Hats Off Luncheon. Our team and volunteers are planning down to the last detail. But we know you have something on your list too--figuring out what youre going to wear.

Will you go for quiet elegance? Or are you ready to make a fashion statement? Will you embrace the Pantone color of the year? (Its vivid magenta, by the way.) Or will you dress in your signature color? To make it easy for you--and to have a little fun--print out some of these options for outfits, and a picture of yourself, and have a paper doll fashion show.

Were hoping for sunny skies, but it never hurts to be prepared. Boots and a raincoat can also make a statement!

We cant wait to see you--and your Hats Off finery--in just one week.

Were excited to be a part of the celebration for International Friendship Day this coming Saturday, September 30 from 11-2 pm at Theodore M. Berry International Friendship Park, which also happens to be the 20th anniversary of this special park. Were thrilled to welcome one the newest Cincinnati Parks Advisory Councils (CPACs), the International Friendship Park Advisory Council, led by Janet Huston, and are supporting Saturdays event through our CPAC grant program, which has helped fund 57 CPAC events this year in Cincinnati Parks--an investment of over $34,000 in 2023.

Read the recent Enquirer article to learn more about the new CPACs plans for this event and some of the sights you wont want to miss the next time you are walking through this riverfront park. #linkinbio

Were counting down the days to our 17th annual Hats Off Luncheon. Our biggest fundraiser of the year means we can continue to work with more partners in more parks--and invite more people in. In 2023 alone, weve sponsored more than 200 events, programs, and classes for thousands of people in Cincinnati Parks. Thanks to supporters like you, there is more to come in 2024. Well celebrate in Smale Riverfront Park, but our good work will continue throughout all Cincinnati Parks. Keep following us to learn more--and maybe even join in the fun. Come on in!
