Cincinnati Parks Foundation Announces Visionary Ohio River Cable Car Project
CINCINNATI, OH — The Cincinnati Parks Foundation has unveiled an exciting new initiative to enhance connectivity and transportation across the Ohio River: a cable car system linking Smale Riverfront Park to Newport on the Levee.
Currently in the early planning stages, the proposed project aims to provide residents and visitors with a fast, scenic, and eco-friendly way to cross the river. Designed for both commuters and adventure-seekers, the cable car will offer breathtaking views of the Cincinnati skyline while serving as a unique, sustainable transit option between the two bustling riverfront destinations.
“We’re always looking for new ways to enhance connectivity and create unforgettable experiences in our parks,” said Brian L. Tiffany, board chair of the Cincinnati Parks Foundation Board. “This project would add a thrilling new layer to the riverfront while keeping sustainability at its core.”

The Foundation is committed to engaging the community throughout the planning process. Beginning in May, public meetings will allow residents to provide input on design elements, safety features and pricing models. Early proposals suggest a ‘fast lane’ for commuters and a ‘scenic route’ for those who prefer a more leisurely journey. Additionally, a lighthearted incentive is being considered: free Skyline conies for riders who make it across without screaming.
While still in its conceptual phase, the Ohio River Cable Car has already generated significant excitement. Further details, including potential launch dates and funding sources, will be announced as the project develops.
